Last week I asked all of you to contact your legislator about Senate Bill S1468 the Medicare Diabetes Self-Management Training Act of 2011 and the corresponding House of Representatives Bill HR2787. Not being one to ask you do do something that I wouldn’t I contacted my representatives about signing on as a sponsor of the bill. Each of my two senators and one congressman sent back emails that they appreciated my request and would be back to me soon.
The email I got from one of them certainly lets you know that no one in washington is really listening.
The email I received started out like this, "Thank you for contacting me with your concerns in regard to the automatically triggered spending caps, which went into effect on March 1, 2013. This is often referred to as sequestration. I appreciate the opportunity to address this important issue…." The entire response over 1,100 words did not even mention the Senate Bill S1468 that I had asked about. I did not ask about the sequester or anything else except S1468.
Maybe that is the goal that politicians have, get our email address and then send out a political announcement. I have contacted this senator’s office to find out what happened to my original question and am still waiting to hear back from the others. Stay tuned for more on this governmental adventure.
