Letter from the Editor #628: AADE Highlights

May 31, 2012

Steve, Andrew, and I are back from the AACE meeting in Philly and have loaded this week’s newsletter with the latest news from the meeting. We heard some great information on the prediction and prevention of type 1 diabetes, as well as the use of bypass and gastric banding to prevent and reverse elevated glucose levels. There was an interesting paper on the use of exercise to prevent the loss of lean body mass in these patients while they lose weight.

Our senior intern from the University of Florida College of Pharmacy, Jacqueline Vogt, had a chance to speak to Dr. Dennis Kim, Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of California, San Diego and Chief Medical Officer of Zafgen, Inc., about the new Endobarrier®, and how this liner may take the word surgery away from bypass. Click here to read her article on this cutting edge technology.

For those of you heading to the ADA Scientific Sessions in Philadelphia next week, look for us wandering around the exhibit hall and press area, conducting interviews and reviewing products.

Please answer this week’s poll: What other chronic conditions do your patients have?

Vote in and then see results from previous polls here.

We can make a difference!
