NEW STUDY:
FIRST STEP PROGRAM GRANT –
Need 50 Medical Professionals and 1000 patients to participate in a
walking program.
We are looking for medical professionals to participate with us in
a research grant to provide The First Step Program to 1000 patients.
The first step program is a lifestyle physical activity intervention
designed to increase physical activity. It will be for patients with
type 2 diabetes or prediabetes. More information on the program can

It will be a train the trainer program, where 10 medical professionals
will be trained in a one-day seminar to provide the program to 4 other
medical professionals for a total of 50 trained First Step Program facilitators.
Each trained facilitator will then provide the First Step Program to
20 patients for a total of 1000 patients.
The program will consists of providing 4 classes of 1 hour each, each
facilitator (50) will receive a facilitator manual and pedometer that
will have the class outlines. Each patient will receive a pedometer
and patient manual to record their activity. We will monitor activity
levels monthly for 12 -16 weeks, by the use of the patient monthly logs,
and document the totals via the Internet.
Each of the original 10 educators will be paid for their transportation,
hotel, and food for the one day seminar and will also be paid an additional
expense stipend of $250. The educators will be responsible for training
4 other facilitators who will then provide the program to 20 patients
each.
