SLEEP SENTRY NOW FDA APPROVED!!!

Dear Diabetes Educator,

Diabetes Sentry Products would like to introduce to you, a product that may be able to assist some of your patients who experience severe hypoglycemia while sleeping.

The Sleep Sentry® is designed to alarm when a person with diabetes is experiencing the symptoms of hypoglycemia while
sleeping, namely, perspiration and a drop in body temperature. This device is not for everyone with diabetes. It is designed for people with hypoglycemia so severe that they are afraid to sleep at night. As you are aware, hypoglycemia can be dangerous and sometimes life threatening to the person with insulin dependant diabetes, especially during sleep. Diabetes is already a great stress on ones body, sleep deprivation can only add to this stress. With the Sleep Sentry® your patients can rest easier knowing that the monitor will alarm when they begin to perspire or have a drop in body temperature. Patients must be advised to always test their blood sugars after an alarm as the Sleep Sentry® is very sensitive and will sometimes give “false positives”, meaning if they perspire for any reason including nightmares, the flu etc. the alarm will sound. Most people would rather live with the false positives than with the possibility of missing a true hypoglycemic episode while asleep.

The Sleep Sentry® was originally designed by Teledyne Avionics in the 1980’s and many people with diabetes are still using the original monitor. DSP is re-introducing the redesigned Sleep Sentry® which is the only non-invasive monitor available today which detects the symptoms of hypoglycemia.
