From The Editor's Desk:

First we find out that checking post prandial glucose can identify IGT and diabetes years earlier, now research from Northwestern University finds that monitoring nighttime blood pressure identifies patients with type 1 diabetes who are at increased risk for kidney disease. See Item 10

You often wonder if some of the new drug research you read about has a chance. I think one way to get the real story is to see if any of the big companies are willing to invest in a new compound. Check out Item 3 as Eli Lilly makes a big commitment.

Thanks to the over 1100 medical professionals who completed our survey. We will start announcing winners next week, you can still take the survey and have a chance to win. Click Here

NEW PRODUCT

ZETIA™  (ezetimibe) is a whole new class of drugs for lowering cholesterol.  Expected FDA approval within 30-60 days.  Addition of ezetimibe (Zetia) in patients undergoing statin treatment who have low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol levels above current National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) goals can result in a significant improvement in both LDL-cholesterol and triglyceride (TG) profiles.
