How
to Answer Your Patient’s Medicare Questions using SHIPS!
AS THE government has increased
Medicare choices, Medicare has become more and more complex. Luckily, the
federal government also supplies a source of advice: the State Health Insurance
Counseling and Assistance Programs, called the SHIP programs. These programs
provide free insurance help and information in person or by phone to people on
Medicare and to their caregivers.

This Weeks Newsletter
September
11,
2002 Issue 121
From
the Editors Desk:
In
just 2 weeks I will be attending the Weight Management Food &
Dietary Supplements Conference in Phoenix, AZ. I had chance to
interview Gail Montgomery, President & CEO of Nutrition 21, Inc. as
to why there seems to be very few studies on OTC and herbal weight loss
products. Click Here
Many
of you send me comments concerning the use of the word diabetics.
We try to change this to diabetes patients whenever we can, but often
our hands are tied as we are using articles or materials from other
sources and we cannot change them.
We
will be attending the Annual Disease Management Congress in Chicago and
will be reporting back to you on the State of the Art Strategies to
Optimize Outcomes.

Our
Publisher, Stephen Freed, has been working hard to find out about
an overlooked project that looks to be the most promising vehicle for a
possible CURE for Type 1 and 2 Diabetes. Should be ready to release his
info in a couple of weeks.
This
was the week for the 38th
Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD)
in BUDAPEST, HUNGARY. Although we couldn’t be there, items 6-15
overview the important announcements made.
Thank
all of you who registered to participate in the S.T.E.P. Study, but we
only had room for 10 educators and 50 patients.
We are looking for other support to enlarge the study so more of
you can participate, so stay tuned, we have your registrations and will
contact you.
New
Winning Numbers announced for the Diabetes in Control AADE Conference
Book. Last WEEK!
and then unclaimed prizes will go into a special drawing for all of our
readers who complete the Diabetes In Control Survey!
CLICK
here to see if you have a winning number.
Click here to fill out the short survey and get entered into the Special
Drawing
(you do not have to be an educator to win).
The
nomination period
for the product or service you feel has made the greatest impact on
diabetes in the new millennium has closed. We will soon start
taking votes for a winner.
We
still have some openings for the Fiber
Study. If you want your patients to get a free A1c and
Cholesterol and have a great experience click

AstraZeneca says that Crestor, its cholesterol-lowering drug, is
unlikely to be approved in United States until late next year because it
