FrenchFriesThose who consumed greater amounts of potato foods, especially french fries, were at an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, independent of BMI and other risk factors. The findings, based on three cohort studies of almost 200,000 U.S. adults, also revealed an association between an increased consumption of potato foods over time and a subsequent increased diabetes risk. In comparison with stable potato consumption, every 3-servings/week increment of potato consumption in four years was associated with a 4% (95% CI 0–8%) higher T2D risk. Replacement of potatoes with whole grains was associated with a lower T2D risk. — Diabetes Care
