In addition the clock starts ticking for macrovascular complications such as heart attacks, strokes and peripheral vascular diseases before the advent of fasting or postprandial hyperglycemia indicating that there are, in addition to hyperglycemia, a host of risk factors conducive to macrovascular disease.
