Pitavastatin (Livalo, Kowa Pharmaceuticals), a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor, was approved as a primary treatment for hypercholesterolemia and combined dyslipidemia. This new medication has a unique cyclopropyl group on its base structure, giving it the potential for greater LDL clearance and the reduction of plasma cholesterol. The manufacturer also said that pitavastatin is only minimally metabolized by the liver through the cytochrome P450 pathway. See www.Kowapharma.com (http://www.Kowapharma.com) for more information.

The Glucon Solution CGMS
Uses Photoacoustics, a unique combinatorial technology which is superior to
optics alone.
It attains blood glucose measurements directly from inside the blood vessels
and is an improved method both for specificity (identification) and sensitivity
(detection of level changes) of the glucose measurement. To learn more how it

The Transdermal Insulin Drug Delivery (TDD) System
Dermisonics' research has centered upon the creation of a unique hardware platform, to make a wearable, lightweight drug delivery system possible. The Transdermal Drug Delivery (TDD) System employs a flexible patch design integral to the new two-part TDD called the Medi-Cap. The Sonic Applicator And Control Device will power the transducers and produce the alternating ultrasonic waveform signal which will pass through the skin and deposit the drug stored within the TDD. A series of experiments have been conducted using laboratory animal and human cadaver skin to determine the rate of insulin permeation with the U-Strip.

INSULOT, an edutainment tool on cellular phone is a three-window
slot machine which is designed to teach the relationship between plasma glucose
level, amounts of carbohydrates, and insulin dosage. The INSULOT provides pre-prandial
plasma glucose level and type of food. A player estimates an insulin dosage to
achieve an appropriate postprandial plasma glucose level on the slot machine.
INSULOT, then, simulates postprandial plasma glucose level. Expected to be used
for kids age 10 and up.

taped to the skin. And can be programmed from a special wrist watch. The device
is pictured below.
· Tape-On-Skin concept.
· Credit card size.
· Disposable infusion set.
· Reuseable electronic module.
· Remote control and telemetry.
