The First At-Home Diabetes Risk Assessment (Fasting blood sugar Plus A1c test)

Diagnosing diabetes and prediabetes with just a fasting blood sugar can sometimes fail us. We know that a person can have a normal fasting blood sugar, yet can have an elevated postprandial blood sugar on any given day. For the first time, we now have a new product, Diabetes Risk Assessment, available that can be done at home that includes an instant fasting blood sugar, without a monitor and also a mail away A1c result. The combination of the 2 results, are then combined for a risk assessment that gets mailed back or can be reviewed via the internet. If the blood sugars are elevated, they strongly suggest sharing the results with your doctor. See what a report looks like.

The First At-Home Diabetes Risk Assessment (Fasting blood sugar Plus A1c test)

BIOSAFE Medical Technologies, Inc. announced today the development of the first consumer test to evaluate diabetes risk. The BIOSAFE Diabetes Risk Assessment is a two-part process comprised of an immediate fasting glucose reading and a mail-in laboratory analysis for hemoglobin A1c, a blood glucose marker for the previous ninety-day period.  Samples for both tests can be either professionally collected or self-collected through the use of a simple finger-nick collection kit.  Taken in combination, these two results become a reliable indicator of diabetes or a pre-diabetes condition.   The cost is $24.95 for the complete test.

Type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent diabetes) affects more than 20 million Americans and is the most common form of the disease.  However, because diabetes exhibits few if any symptoms until its advanced stages, millions (60 million) more are in danger of contracting the disease and are unaware of it.  When blood glucose (sugar) levels are higher than normal, but not yet high enough to be classified as diabetes, a condition known as pre-diabetes exists.  If discovered early, a person with pre-diabetes can avoid the disease through education, diet, exercise, and drugs.

A single blood test for fasting blood sugar could be normal and you could still have diabetes or prediabetes.  But with the combination of a fasting blood sugar and the A1c test, which is a 90 day average of your blood sugars, you get a more accurate picture.

“Diabetes is a debilitating, crippling, and life-shortening disease whose most serious complications can be prevented with early detection. The BIOSAFE Diabetes Risk Assessment is a common-sense approach to early detection of a potentially dangerous condition,” said Jack Maggiore, PhD, president of BIOSAFE Laboratories, Inc. “Despite decades of medical advances for the treatment of diabetes, millions of people remain unknowingly undiagnosed and at risk for the disease.  By making this quick, convenient and inexpensive kit available to consumers, we are confident that those who are indentified as being in a pre-diabetic state will work with their physicians to implement dietary and healthy lifestyle changes to avoid the onset of diabetes and its catastrophic complications, like heart disease, blindness, and kidney failure.”

If you have a relative with diabetes or are a few pounds or more overweight, or have elevated cholesterol or even above average blood pressure, you should test to see your risk for prediabetes or diabetes.  By finding out now, you can have a greater impact with small changes in your lifestyle.  Most people at the time of diagnosis of diabetes already have a complication from diabetes.  Find out now if you are at risk and prevent the complications of diabetes.  DON’T WAIT, ACT NOW!   You owe it to yourself and your family. Your results indicate that you are at medium risk for diabetes, and may suggest a condition called "pre-diabetes". Communicate these results to your doctor or other health care professional responsible for your health management.

This test alone cannot diagnose or rule out diabetes, and should not replace a regular office visit to your doctor. Only a doctor could diagnose diabetes with additional testing and a full clinical evaluation. BIOSAFE strongly recommends that you discuss these results with your doctor.

If you have been previously diagnosed as having diabetes, the American Diabetes Association recommends that AIc results be maintained between 5 and 7% for good average daily glucose control. Your doctor should interpret the results of your Hemoglobin AIc test results and together with your doctor you should establish your Hemoglobin AIc goal. Results of an HbAlc test reflect an average blood glucose level during the last 2 to 3 months. Testing your Hemoglobin AIc is not a substitute for regular visits to your doctor and does not replace the need for blood glucose monitoring. Never adjust your medications or make changes to your treatment program without the advice of your primary care physician.

If you have any questions about your test result, call BIOSAFE Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-700-8378 Mon to Fri, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time.
Interpretation of this report is based on the presumption of a 12 hour fasting period prior to sample collection. The BIOSAFE Cholesterol and HbA1 c results do not make a diagnosis of any kind, and should never replace an office visit with your doctor. Recent medication, diet and other conditions may influence your results. If you have any questions about your test result, please call BIOSAFE Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-700-8378 Mon to Fri, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time.
