According to the ADA Standard of Care,[1] patients with Type 2 diabetes should have an annual dilated eye exam, podiatry and dental referrals, as well as a flu shot. Patients with diabetes are prone to periodontal problems due to an accumulation of advanced glycation end products in gingival tissue.[2]
