When the SGLT-2 drugs first came out, there was a big emphasis put on the UTI side-effect, and many prescribers were hesitant to try the class. This proved to be over-exaggerated and prescribers started using them. Further research showed that they could cause weight loss and lower blood pressure, and then there was a large important study that pointed towards the heart benefits of Jardiance (Empagliflozin). Now another study points to the value of Empagliflozin for preserving beta cells. Click to read a feature by our current intern Jimmy Tran.
