Exercise Not Effective in Preventing Holiday Weight Gain

Researchers followed 48 men and 100 women for the six weeks between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Day. Half reported being serious, regular exercisers while the other half copped to being couch potatoes.People who were obese at the start of the study had the biggest increases in weight as well as significant increases in body fat percentage. Researchers concluded that holiday weight gain could be a more important factor in the obesity epidemic than currently believed. European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Dec. 2013
