Exercise after Weight-Loss Surgery Reduces Risk for Diabetes, CVD and Strokes

Bariatric surgery patients who exercised for 120 minutes per week for 24 weeks showed improvements in insulin sensitivity, glucose metabolism and other health measures, compared with those who participated in an education program. According to the study’s senior investigator Dr. Bret Goodpaster, director of the Exercise Metabolism Core at the TRI-MD, “The data support the inclusion of an exercise program following bariatric surgery to further enhance the health of individuals who opt for surgery to lose weight.” — The Journal of Clinical Investigation.
