Excess Weight Associated with 10 Cancers

In a study using data from 5 million patients, researchers found that obese or overweight individuals had a higher risk of developing 10 common cancers. Leukemia and cancers of the uterus, gallbladder, kidney, cervix and thyroid rose linearly along with weight. Higher BMI was associated with a greater risk of liver, colon, ovarian and breast cancer. Every five-point increase in BMI was associated with a 62% higher risk of cancer of the uterus, a 31% increased risk of gallbladder cancer and a 25% increased risk of cancer of the kidney.
