Editor’s Note: “Take As Directed”

Each day in the pharmacy we get prescriptions with the three scariest words in medicine: “Take as directed.” Since diabetes patients on average take seven medications it’s impossible to expect them to remember how to take all of them and this week’s Diabetes Disaster Averted reminds us of this dangerous way to label prescriptions.

This week our Clinical Text discusses the psychological problems facing older adults with diabetes and our Homerun Slides shed light on the “The Solution for Evolution: Insulin Resistance.”
