Over the past 15 years, Steve and I have read many a study, article, or abstract on curing type 1 diabetes. Although many of these have shown great promise and have had some serious backing from large companies and universities, none of them have ever panned out. A couple of months ago we were sitting at a bar at the AACE meeting in Nashville and were discussing why all of these had failed. Steve mentioned that not all the necessary components were in place for the ideas to work. It always seems as if there is some piece of technology or knowledge that is lagging behind that stops success.
Now, for the first time, it appears that all the pieces are in place and according to Dr. Paolo Fiorina, we have a good chance of making a type diabetes cure a reality. He sat down with the Diabetes in Control team to discuss why now is the time and we have an Exclusive Video Interview for you.

Our Disaster Averted looks at how the excessive bleeding noticed by a CDE led to the diagnosis of a rare condition, and our Clinical Text homes in on tissue ischemia in the feet.
