Editor’s Note, DCMS #201

Sometimes when we prepare this newsletter, the articles, slides and text all seem to go together. That is very evident when we look at the Clinical Text from Drs. Rudy Bilous and Richard Donnelly, as they talk about the epidemiology of type 2 diabetes. This week, they delve into a lot of details that most of us have often thought about, and their explanation of the Americanizing and Urbanizing of the rest of the world fits right in with this week’s Diabetes Epidemic focus.

We look at the incidence and prevalence of diabetes in the Western Pacific. It is uniquely interesting that the places where westerners were headquartered during the second world war have the highest incidence and a few clicks will help you understand why our country’s biggest export is diabetes.

In our Homerun Slides, we learn more about how genetic disposition can determine the type of diabetes a patient has and this dovetails perfectly with our Clinical Text. Our Mastery In Minutes video features a discussion of how car technology in the future might prevent both hypoglycemia and the accidents that can sometimes result from low BG levels.
