Editor’s Note, DCMS #189: Ink-a Dinka Don’t

May 19, 2014

Years ago there was a famous singer, actor, and comedian, Jimmy Durante, who would often start or end a joke with the phrase "ink-a dinka doo." However, after you read this week’s Disaster Averted, saying "ink-a dinka don’t" to your diabetes patients who want to get a tattoo may make a lot more sense.

This week, Dr. Richard Beaser from Joslin Diabetes Center, helps you to understand why starting low and going slow when it comes to treating new diabetes patients is not a very good idea, and Dr. Stanley Schwartz finishes up his Homerun Slides series on Obesity and Diabetes by looking at the weighty effects of diabetes medicines. Our Mastery In Minutes video features Kathie L. Hermayer, MD, and Pam Arnold, MSN, as they explain their work in lowering hospital hypoglycemia rates in the MUSC system.
