iOS and Android/Free
This popular app is now available for Android also. The app uses the "gamification" concept as well as a sometimes cheeky digital icon to motivate patients. The "Companion" helps document day-to-day life (like a diabetes diary), provides feedback and keeps them motivated. Points are earned for each entry and patients get the chance to "fight" the defiant diabetes monster. Challenges help to set and pursue some individual goals. Features include: easy and quick logging; smart search; convenient data analysis; neat and clear graphs; photo function; challenges; PDF reports; feedback; secure data backup; and fast multi-device sync.
Overall Impressions from Around the Web:
There are many diabetes apps using the idea of gamification competing for attention out there but mySugr seems to have done a better job than most of them, and users have been enthusiastic in their response. The developers (some of whom are diabetic themselves) are also very involved and committed to making the app (and a junior version as well) the best it can be. And they bring a welcome sense of humor to their jobs and their approach to fighting diabetes. (Two of their employees are listed as "hyper" and "hypo.") Well worth checking out for your patients looking for a little more motivation. It may work especially well for those who are competitive and like games. Technical support for the app also seems to be excellent.
