Continuous Glucose Monitoring an Option for Infants, Toddlers

Can continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) be used on infants and toddlers? Should it be?

This study looked at the feasibility of using CGM in children four years old and younger and found that risks such as skin reactions were minimal. Hyperglycemia was present more than half the day on average, while hypoglycemia was infrequent.

Though CGM did not improve glycemic control in this group, it can help to ease parents’ concerns of hypoglycemia, and in the future may allow more confidence in treating hyperglycemia in infants and toddlers.
