Editor's Note: Rhinocerebral Mucormycosis

The complication of the week seems to be rhinocerebral mucormycosis. If you are not familiar with this infection then check out this week's Homerun Slides, which include a section on rhinocerebral mucormycosis, what it looks like and where it comes from. Then take a look at the Clinical Text excerpt from Diabetic Emergencies: Diagnosis and Clinical Management, with Part 3 of the Treatment of Diabetic Ketoacidosis in Adults, and when you read about the complications from repeated DKA you will find rhinocerebral mucormycosis on the list.

Our Disaster Averted deals with the problems of having old insulins in the refrigerator, and what happens when a patient decides to use every last drop. Last week our Mastery In Minutes video from Dr. Robert Stanton discussed high-protein diets, and because many of you felt that these food plans helped your patients control their diabetes, this week we have Dr. Stanton back to give his perspective on low-protein diets, and their effect on reducing kidney problems in diabetes patients.
