Symlin is a synthetic version of amylin, a hormone that is made in the beta cells of the pancreas and comes as an injection. The strength is 0.6mg/ml and the starting dose for Type 1 patients is 15mcg and for Type 2 patients the starting dose is 60mcg before each meal respectively.

When you instruct the patient to use Symlin in a 3/10 cc insulin syringe you would indicate the following starting amounts for Type 1 and Type 2 patients respectively before each meal:

1. 2.5 units and 10 units

2. 15 units and 60 units

3. 9 units and 36 units

4. 3 units and 27 units
