Cecilia Sauter, MS, RD, CDE, gives us some terrific examples how very small steps that patients can take to improve their physical activity levels. However, she first points out that it is vital to listen to patients to determine if they are willing to increase their activity. If so, she recommends doing exercise in small bits – five or seven minutes. She talks about how some patients in scooters just make their goal walking across the living room, or walking out to the mailbox.
