Cecilia Sauter talks about how she teaches diabetes professionals to work very hard at listening to the patients. She points out that most diabetes professionals are very motivated to help their patients and have many tools which they want to share but they need to remember first to listen to the patients and respond to their questions, concerns, and priorities. Another issue she makes sure she emphasizes is that even though educators can do everything they can to help, ultimately it is the patient’s responsibility to take control of their diabetes.
