A 45 year old male was admitted to the Medical Center of Aurora with cellulitis of the right lower leg secondary to a blood clot. Post-surgical edema inhibited wound closure. Wound care began on March 23, 2001. Anodyne therapy commenced on April 2. Treatment protocol consisted of one therapy pad placed on the plantar aspect of the foot and three therapy pads placed over the open incision.  Treatment duration was 30 minutes daily.  Patient diagnoses included PmHx, htn, HEPA, IDDM, Charcot foot and retinopathy.  At initial assessment the patient was unable to sense the 5.07 Semmes Weinstein monofilament (SWM) in any of the tested areas on either foot or leg. Following 6 treatments, the patient was able to sense the SWM (5.07) in the arch portion of the right foot, the little toe and from the ankle up to the thigh.  Following 12 treatments, the patient had sensation to the monofilament (5.07) in the great toe, small toe and arch of the foot and up the leg.  Following 34 treatment sessions, the patient exhibited restored protective sensation in the right foot.  All sites tested on the untreated left leg still had insensitivity to a 5.07 SWM.
