daveThis week we have an interesting article on the use of nonnutritive sweeteners.  Over the years, we have had many of these as one opinion or another had flip-flopped as to the benefit or harm of these products. As an educator, I have always been in favor of using them and felt that in addition to the benefits of lower caloric intake, the use of nonnutritive aweeteners was a constant reminder to the patient that they need to be doing something.

This latest article, researched by Josephat Macharia, PharmD candidate, Lecom School of Pharmacy class of 2018, leans toward reasons not to use these products. I want you to read this article and form your own opinion. However, for me, the claims do not seem to be fair due to the lack of discussion as to what would have happened to these patients if they had never used the products. If you have an opinion you would like to share, send me an email at editor@diabetesincontrol.com
