Letter from the Editor #630: ADA Scientific Sessions Wrap-up

This week we have packed our newsletter with all the best of the recent 72nd ADA Scientific Sessions in Philadelphia. Steve and Andrew conducted more than 20 interviews with top diabetes thought leaders and we will have those for you in the upcoming weeks. This week we looked at how strategies like starting insulin in pre-diabetic patients can make a difference, and which kind of body fat you lose from bariatric surgery can make a difference in a patient's diabetes success.

There were lots of new studies on future diabetes drugs and one of the classes getting the most attention is the SGLT Inhibitors with no less than four pharma companies presenting at the meeting. Our graduate intern, Erica Paul, PharmD. has reviewed these presentations for you and put together a report with the history, mechanisms of action, and the latest news on this new class of drugs.
