Editor's Note DCMS #66: Beware of Similar Medication Names

Last week I was walking in the OTC department in front of the pharmacy and I noticed a box of Fastin on the shelf. I was surprised by this as I knew that the RX version was phentermine 37.5 mg and could not believe that you could now buy it over the counter. I picked up the box and the ingredients were not the same: an OTC supplement maker had bought the rights to the name and was using it. It was not until we received this week's Disaster Averted, Beware of Similar Names, that I fully realized the potential problems that this could cause.

Our Homerun Slides from Stan Schwartz, MD, FACE, FACP, Emeritus Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine, University of Pa., continues to expand on the basis for an Aggressive Pathophysiologic Approach to Cardiometabolic Therapy for Type 2 Diabetes with Part 3 of this series, and our Clinical Gem focuses on Individual Interventions and Motivational Interviewing.
