People with Diabetes Twice as Likely to Lose Hearing as They Age

Age-related hearing loss is more common in people with diabetes than those who don't have it....

But how much more? This meta-analysis (426-PP) of 11 studies on diabetes and hearing loss found it to be twice as common in people with diabetes than those without.  

Further investigation needs to be done to determine why hearing loss is more common in those with diabetes. Some researchers feel that neuropathy or vascular disease may be the mechanism.
